Easy Flower Silhouette Craft for Kids
Today I’m excited to share with you an easy flower silhouette craft for kids. With just a few supplies from around the house and a free flower template, your children can create beautiful floral artwork. Spring is just around the corner, making now a great time to play with some pastel colors. We opted for a pastel paper pack from Amazon, but feel free to use any colors you prefer for the layered background. Let’s get started!
Materials for the Flower Silhouette Craft
Most of the materials needed for this spring flower craft are likely already available at home. Improvisation is encouraged, like using construction paper instead of card stock and liquid glue instead of a glue stick.
- Free Flower Template
- Colored Card Stock
- Glue Stick
- Scissors
How to Make the Flower Silhouette Craft
Here’s a step-by-step guide to creating your flower craft.
Step | Description |
Print and Cut | Print out the free flower template on white card stock and cut out the inside of the flower. Younger kids may need help. |
Prepare the Strips | Cut your colored paper into strips horizontally or vertically. Using a paper cutter can save time. |
Glue the Base | On another piece of card stock (we used white), glue the colorful strips in a pattern until the paper is covered. |
Add the Silhouette | Glue the flower silhouette on top and then add the flower’s center to the middle. |
Final Touches | Trim any extra strips hanging off the sides. |
Spring Math Craft for Preschool or Kindergarten
This simple flower silhouette can be an enriching project for preschoolers. While it’s fun and creative, it also reinforces essential skills like fine motor control and pattern recognition. Cutting out strips and the flower shape helps develop these skills. Even if their edges aren’t perfect, it’s a significant accomplishment.
Additionally, creating patterns with five colors is a great activity for preschoolers. For younger kids, you can simplify with fewer colors.
Ways to Adapt the Flower Silhouette Craft for Older Kids
This craft allows plenty of room for creativity. Older children can also enjoy and personalize this activity:
- Switch up the bottom layer with a paper weave, torn paper collage, glitter paper, or funky-edged scissors.
- Laminate the finished product to use as a binder cover or room sign.
- Create unique silhouette shapes using stencils, cookie cutters, or free-hand designs like unicorns, hearts, or trees.
